      Bake pastry: Thaw puff pastry. Cut one sheet in half. Place on a baking sheet, prick with a fork, and bake at 200°C (400°F) until golden. Repeat with the second sheet. Let cool.

      Prepare custard: Heat 600ml milk with 180g sugar. Whisk cornstarch with remaining milk (150ml) and vanilla. Gradually add hot milk to cornstarch mixture, return to pot.

      Cook custard: Cook over medium heat, stirring, until thick. Remove from heat, stir in butter and salt. Let cool slightly.

      Assemble: Place one baked pastry sheet on a serving dish. Pour the warm custard over it. Top with the second pastry sheet.

      Chill: Refrigerate for at least 1 hour until set. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
