Ingredients

  • Ground beef (80/20)1 lb
  • Salt1 tsp
  • Black pepper0.5 tsp
  • Cheddar cheese slices4 slices
  • Sesame seed buns2
  • Lettuce leaves2 large
  • Tomato slices4 slices
  • Onion, thinly sliced0.5 medium
  • Dill pickle slices8 slices
  • Ketchup2 tbsp
  • Mustard2 tbsp

Steps

  1. 1

Divide ground beef into two equal portions and form into patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Gently press a dimple in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

  2. 2

Season both sides of the patties generously with salt and black pepper.

  3. 3

Heat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a tablespoon of oil.

  4. 4

Cook the patties for 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer depending on desired doneness. Avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking to keep them juicy.

  5. 5

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cover briefly to melt.

  6. 6

While the cheese melts, lightly toast the inside of the sesame seed buns on the grill or in the skillet.

  7. 7

Assemble the burgers: spread ketchup and mustard on the bottom bun, place the cheesepatties on top, then layer with lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, and pickle slices. Top with the other half of the bun.
