- Thinly sliced beef (e.g., sirloin or pre-sliced stir-fry beef)1 lb
- Hoagie rolls or crusty bread4
- Provolone or mozzarella cheese slices8 slices
- Yellow onion1 large
- Cooking oil1 tbsp

Slice the onion thinly. Slice the beef into smaller, bite-sized pieces if not already.

Heat 1 tbsp of cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until softened and lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Add the beef to the skillet with the onions. Season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes.

Reduce heat to low. Top the beef and onion mixture with the cheese slices. Cover the skillet for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

While the cheese melts, lightly toast the hoagie rolls or bread slices.

Serve the cheesesteak mixture directly from the skillet, spooned onto the toasted rolls or bread.
