
Traditional Špek Fileki

A hearty and traditional Slovenian dish featuring pasta squares (fileki) cooked with smoked pork fat (špek) and onions, seasoned with paprika. A true comfort food classic.

Sastojci
- Široki rezanci (wide pasta noodles)400g
- Smoked pork fat (špek)200g
- Onions2 large
- Sweet paprika2 tbsp
- Saltto taste
- Black pepperto taste
- Waterfor boiling

Cook the pasta noodles in plenty of salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Dice the smoked pork fat (špek) into small cubes.

Finely chop the onions.

In a large pan, render the diced špek over medium heat until crispy and most of the fat has been released. Remove the crispy bits of špek and set aside.

Add the chopped onions to the rendered fat in the pan. Sauté until golden brown and caramelized.

Stir in the sweet paprika and cook for about 30 seconds, being careful not to burn it.

Add the cooked pasta noodles to the pan with the onion and paprika mixture. Toss well to coat.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Add the reserved crispy špek bits back into the pan.

Toss everything together and serve immediately.
