- Beef broth1 cup

Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off excess fat.

Add chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.

Stir in chili powder and cumin, and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Add diced tomatoes (with juice), kidney beans, and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper.
