
Sagu Gula Melaka (Classic)

A classic Malaysian dessert featuring chewy sago pearls simmered in coconut milk and sweetened with rich gula melaka (palm sugar).

Bahan
- Sago pearls1 cup
- Gula Melaka (palm sugar)200g
- Coconut milk400ml
- Water4 cups
- Pandan leaves2
- Salt1/4 teaspoon

Rinse sago pearls under cold water until water runs clear. Soak in 4 cups of water for 30 minutes.

Boil the soaked sago pearls in the same water over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until translucent. This may take about 15-20 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water.

In a separate pot, heat the gula melaka with 1/2 cup of water and pandan leaves until the sugar dissolves completely. Strain to remove impurities and pandan leaves.

In another pot, gently heat the coconut milk with salt and the remaining pandan leaves (if using). Do not boil. Remove pandan leaves.

To serve, spoon the cooked sago pearls into individual bowls. Pour the warm coconut milk over the sago, then drizzle generously with the gula melaka syrup.
