Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan or a bundt pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

Carefully stir in the hot water or coffee. The batter will be thin.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan.

Bake for 30-40 minutes for a 9x13 pan, or 50-60 minutes for a bundt pan, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the cake cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
