A simplified version of the classic, using pre-made or quicker-cooking beef cuts and a slightly faster goulash preparation, paired with store-bought or quickly made šurlice.

- Beef stew meat700 g
- Onions2 medium
- Garlic3 cloves
- Sweet paprika2 tbsp
- All-purpose flour1.5 tbsp
- Beef broth400 ml
- Tomato paste1.5 tbsp
- Vegetable oil2 tbsp
- Saltto taste
- Black pepperto taste
- Šurlice pasta (store-bought or quick homemade)300 g
- Sour cream (for garnish)optional
- Chives (for garnish)optional

Cut beef stew meat into 2 cm cubes. Season with salt and pepper.

Finely chop onions and mince garlic.

Heat oil in a pot over medium-high heat. Brown the beef cubes.

Add onions and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

Stir in garlic, paprika, and flour. Cook for 1 minute.

Pour in beef broth and tomato paste. Stir well.

Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 45-60 minutes, or until beef is tender. Stir occasionally.

Cook šurlice pasta according to package directions (or prepare quick homemade version). Drain.

Adjust seasoning of the goulash.

Serve the goulash over the cooked šurlice. Garnish with sour cream and chives if desired.
