A traditional Bulgarian baked dish featuring layers of mashed potatoes and seasoned ground meat (kayma), often enriched with onions and spices, baked until golden and bubbly.

- Ground Pork or Beef500 g
- Onions2 medium
- Eggs2
- Milk100 ml
- Butter50 g
- Vegetable Oil2 tbsp
- Saltto taste
- Black Pepperto taste
- Paprika1 tsp
- Optional: Parsley, chopped2 tbsp

Peel and boil potatoes until tender. Mash them with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.

Finely chop onions and sauté in vegetable oil until softened.

Add ground meat to the onions and cook, breaking it up, until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.

In a bowl, whisk eggs with a little milk and salt.

Grease a baking dish. Spread half of the mashed potatoes in the dish. Top with the meat mixture. Cover with the remaining mashed potatoes.

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top layer of potatoes.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and set.

Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
