Ingredients

- Whole milk1/2 cup

Peel the potatoes and cut them into uniform 1-inch chunks.

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover with cold water by about an inch. Add a generous pinch of salt.

Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium and simmer until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Drain the potatoes thoroughly in a colander.

Return the drained potatoes to the hot, empty pot over low heat for 1-2 minutes to dry them out.

Warm the milk and butter together in a small saucepan or in the microwave until the butter is melted and the milk is warm.

Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or ricer until mostly smooth. Gradually add the warm milk and butter mixture, along with the heavy cream, mixing until creamy and well combined. Do not overmix.
