- Chicken pieces (bone-in, skin-on)4 lbs
- Ketchup2 cups
- Molasses0.5 cup
- Apple cider vinegar0.25 cup
- Brown sugar0.25 cup
- Worcestershire sauce2 tbsp
- Liquid smoke1 tsp
- Mustard powder1 tsp
- Garlic powder1 tsp
- Onion powder1 tsp
- Saltto taste
- Black pepperto taste

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a saucepan, combine ketchup, molasses, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, mustard powder, garlic powder, and onion powder. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Season with salt and pepper. This is your Kansas City style BBQ sauce.

Pat chicken pieces dry and season with salt and pepper.

Place chicken in a baking dish and bake for 45-60 minutes, or until almost cooked through.

While chicken is baking, preheat your grill to medium heat.

Remove chicken from oven. Brush generously with the prepared BBQ sauce.

Transfer chicken to the preheated grill. Grill for 10-15 minutes, flipping and basting with more sauce, until caramelized and slightly charred.
