Cook spaghetti in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water before draining.

While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Add anchovy fillets and red pepper flakes to the skillet. Cook, breaking up the anchovies with a spoon, until they dissolve into the oil, about 2 minutes.
