- Shallots, minced1 tbsp
- Sugar1 tsp
- Black pepper1/2 tsp
- Salt1/2 tsp
- Burger buns4
- Cheese slices (e.g., Provolone or Swiss)4
- Cilantro sprigsfor garnish
- Pickled carrots and daikon (Do Chua)for topping
- Mayonnaisefor spreading

In a bowl, combine ground beef, fish sauce, minced garlic, minced shallots, sugar, black pepper, and salt. Mix gently until just combined.

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties, about 3/4 inch thick.

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.

Grill or pan-fry the patties for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness.

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

Lightly toast the burger buns.

Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Place a cheese-topped patty on top.
