- Canned crushed tomatoes800g
- Garlic4 cloves
- Onion1 medium
- Olive oil4 tbsp
- Fresh basil1/2 cup, chopped
- Sirene cheese (Bulgarian white brine cheese)200g
- Saltto taste
- Black pepperto taste
- Waterfor boiling pasta

Cook spaghetti according to package directions in salted boiling water. Drain, reserving about 1 cup of pasta water.

While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and chopped onion, sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

Pour in crushed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.

Stir in chopped fresh basil into the sauce.

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the tomato sauce. Toss to coat evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water.
