  • Black tea (Assam or Darjeeling)4 bags or 4 tbsp loose leaf
  • Water2 cups
  • Whole milk2 cups
  • Cinnamon sticks2
  • Cardamom pods5-6
  • Star anise2
  • Cloves4-5
  • Fresh ginger, sliced1 inch piece
  • Sugar or honeyto taste
  • Ice cubesplenty

    In a saucepan, combine water, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, star anise, cloves, and ginger. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes to infuse the spices.

    Add the black tea bags or loose leaf tea to the saucepan. Steep for 5 minutes.

    Strain the spiced tea mixture into a pitcher, discarding the solids. Stir in sugar or honey until dissolved.

    Allow the chai concentrate to cool slightly. Then, stir in the milk.

    Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chai mixture over the ice.
