Preheat oven to 160°C (320°F). Mix ground walnuts, oatmeal, and melted butter. Press into the base of a 24cm springform pan.

In a large bowl, beat quark, brown sugar, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Pour the filling over the walnut crust. Bake for 65-80 minutes, until set with a slight wobble in the center.

Allow to cool completely in the oven with the door ajar, then chill for at least 4 hours.

For the cherry topping: Combine sour cherries, sugar, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until thickened.
