- Smoked sausage (e.g., kielbasa)200g
- Onion1 large
- Carrots2 medium
- Garlic3 cloves
- Smoked paprika1 tsp
- Vegetable oil1 tbsp
- Bay leaf1
- Saltto taste
- Black pepperto taste
- Water or beef broth1 liter

Rinse the lentils thoroughly.

Slice the smoked sausage into rounds. Finely chop the onion, dice the carrots, and mince the garlic.

Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sausage slices and cook until lightly browned. Remove sausage and set aside, leaving drippings in the pot.

Add the chopped onion to the pot and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the diced carrots and minced garlic. Cook for another 3-5 minutes.

Stir in the smoked paprika and cook for 30 seconds.

Add the rinsed lentils, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Pour in the water or broth.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 40-50 minutes, or until lentils are tender. Add the cooked sausage back in during the last 10 minutes of simmering.
