- Tamarind paste3 tbsp
- Dried chilies5-7
- Fresh chilies2-3
- Turmeric (fresh)1 inch
- Ginger (fresh)1 inch
- Shallots4
- Garlic3 cloves
- Okra4-5
- Water1.2 liters
- Saltto taste
- Black pepperto taste
- Mint leavesfor garnish

Soak dried chilies in hot water for 15 minutes, then blend into a paste with fresh chilies, turmeric, ginger, shallots, and garlic.

Cut mackerel into serving pieces.

Heat a little oil (optional, or use a non-stick pot) and sauté the chili paste until fragrant.

Add water and tamarind paste to the pot. Bring to a simmer.
