- Glutinous rice700 g
- Ripe bananas (e.g., chuối xiêm)4-5 medium
- Coconut milk200 ml
- Sugar100 g
- Salt1 tsp
- Banana leaves8-10 large
- Waterfor soaking and boiling
- Rattan strips or kitchen twinefor tying

Soak glutinous rice in water for at least 6 hours or overnight. Drain well.

Mash the ripe bananas with sugar and salt.

Combine the soaked rice with coconut milk and the mashed banana mixture. Mix well.

Prepare banana leaves: wash, wipe dry, and briefly blanch or pass over a flame to make them pliable. Cut into large rectangular pieces.

Layer two banana leaves (shiny side in) to form a cone. Fill with the sticky rice and banana mixture, pressing gently.

Fold the banana leaves tightly to form a cylinder, pressing out any air. Securely tie the cake with rattan strips or kitchen twine.

Repeat for remaining ingredients.

Place the wrapped cakes in a large pot. Cover completely with water. Boil for 4-5 hours, adding more hot water as needed to keep the cakes submerged.
