Clean the prawns, leaving shells and heads on. Deveining is optional.

Prepare aromatics: Smash and cut lemongrass into 3-inch sections. Peel and thinly slice the ginger.

In a steamer pot, combine beer, water, lemongrass, and ginger. Bring to a rolling boil.

Arrange the prawns in a steamer basket. Place the basket over the boiling liquid. Cover tightly and steam for 6-10 minutes, depending on size, until prawns are fully pink and cooked.
