Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

For the syrup: Combine 1.5 cups sugar, 1 cup water, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Let cool.

In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and the remaining 0.5 cup sugar until pale and fluffy.

Beat in yogurt, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together semolina flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
