Prepare the dough as per the Classic Ukrainian Ponchky recipe (Steps 1-5).

Instead of rolling and cutting rings, divide the dough into small balls (about 50g each).

Flatten each ball slightly, place about 1 teaspoon of jam in the center, and carefully seal the edges to form a round bun, ensuring no jam leaks out.

Place the filled balls on a floured tray, cover, and let them rest for 20-30 minutes.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 180°C (350°F).

Fry the filled ponchky in batches, turning occasionally, for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown all over.

Remove ponchky with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Dust lightly with powdered sugar while warm.
