    Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

    While pasta cooks, finely chop the onion and mince the garlic.

    In a large pan, heat a little oil (not listed as assumed) over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until browned. Drain excess fat.

    Add the chopped onion to the pan with the beef and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

    Stir in the minced garlic and tomato paste, cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

    Add the diced tomatoes, water, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 15-20 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

    In a bowl, whisk together the yogurt and egg until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.

    In a baking dish, layer half of the cooked pasta, followed by half of the meat sauce, and then half of the yogurt mixture.

    Repeat the layers with the remaining pasta, meat sauce, and yogurt mixture.

    Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
