Ingredients
- All-purpose flour4 cups
- Granulated sugar1/2 cup
- Active dry yeast2 1/4 teaspoons
- Warm milk1 cup
- Unsalted butter, softened1/2 cup
- Eggs2 large
- Salt1 teaspoon
- Brown sugar, packed1 cup
- Ground cinnamon2 tablespoons
- Cream cheese, softened4 oz
- Powdered sugar1 cup
- Vanilla extract1 teaspoon
Steps
- 1
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center.
- 3
Pour the yeast mixture into the well. Add softened butter and eggs. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 4
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 5
While dough rises, prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
- 6
Punch down the risen dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and roll into a 12x18 inch rectangle.
- 7
Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the butter.
- 8
Starting from the long side, tightly roll up the dough. Pinch the seam to seal.
- 9
Cut the roll into 12 equal slices. Place slices cut-side up in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- 10
Cover the dish and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- 11
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 12
While rolls bake, prepare the frosting: Beat together softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- 13
Let the rolls cool slightly in the dish, then spread frosting over the warm rolls.
