  • Onion1 large, sliced
  • Garlic4 cloves, minced
  • Beef broth2 cups
  • Worcestershire sauce1/4 cup
  • Tomato paste2 tablespoons
  • Bay leaf2

  • Black pepperTo taste

Steps

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).

  2. 2

Season the brisket generously with salt and pepper.

  3. 3

In a Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, sauté onions until softened. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.

  4. 4

Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste. Add bay leaves.

  5. 5

Place the brisket in the pot, fat side up. The liquid should come about halfway up the sides of the brisket.

  6. 6

Cover the pot tightly and braise in the preheated oven for 3-4 hours, or until fork-tender.

  7. 7

Remove brisket from the pot and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing.

  8. 8

Strain the braising liquid, skim off fat, and reduce slightly if desired for a sauce. Serve brisket with the sauce.
