Ingredients
- Pre-cooked or canned yellow lentils (like masoor dal or toor dal)2 cans (approx. 15 oz each)
- Ghee or oil2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds1 tsp
- Garlic cloves, minced2
- Green chili, finely chopped (optional)1
- Turmeric powder1/4 tsp
- Saltto taste
- Wateras needed
- Fresh cilantro, chopped1 tbsp

Drain and rinse canned lentils if using. If using pre-cooked, ensure they are ready to heat.

Heat ghee or oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Add minced garlic and chopped green chili (if using). Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Add turmeric powder and stir briefly.

Add the lentils to the pan. Add salt to taste. Stir well to combine with the tempering.

Add a little water if the dal is too thick. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.

Garnish with fresh cilantro. Serve immediately.
