Ingredients

  • Rice1 cup
  • Red lentils (masoor dal)1/2 cup
  • Oil or Ghee1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder1/4 tsp
  • Saltto taste
  • Water4 cups
  • Fresh cilantro, choppedfor garnish

Steps

    Rinse rice and masoor dal together under cold water. Drain.

    Heat oil or ghee in a pot over medium heat.

    Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

    Add the rinsed rice and dal mixture. Stir for 30 seconds.

    Add turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.

    Pour in water. Bring to a boil.

    Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice and lentils are cooked through and the mixture has thickened.

    Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Add a little more water if it becomes too thick.
