  • Butter3 tablespoons
  • Yellow onion1 cup, chopped
  • Jalapeño pepper1, seeded and minced
  • Garlic2 cloves, minced
  • All-purpose flour1/4 cup
  • Vegetable broth4 cups
  • Milk2 cups
  • Cayenne pepper1/4 teaspoon (or to taste)

  • Black pepperto taste

Steps

    Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and jalapeño, cook until softened, about 6-8 minutes.

    Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.

    Gradually whisk in the vegetable broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer.
