Ingredients
- All-purpose flour4 cups
- Granulated sugar1/2 cup
- Active dry yeast2 1/4 teaspoons
- Milk1 cup
- Unsalted butter, softened1/2 cup
- Eggs2 large
- Salt1 teaspoon
- Brown sugar, packed1 cup
- Ground cinnamon2 tablespoons
- Cream cheese, softened8 ounces
- Powdered sugar1 1/2 cups
- Vanilla extract1 teaspoon
Steps
- 1
In a small bowl, combine warm milk (105-115°F), yeast, and 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, remaining granulated sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center.
- 3
Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and eggs to the well. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 4
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 6
While dough rises, prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
- 7
Prepare the frosting: In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until creamy.
- 8
Punch down the risen dough. Roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle (about 12x18 inches).
- 9
Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border on one long edge.
- 10
Starting from the long edge opposite the border, tightly roll up the dough.
- 11
Cut the roll into 12 equal slices.
- 12
Place slices cut-side up in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- 13
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 14
Let cool slightly before spreading with cream cheese frosting.
