- Garlic powder1 tsp
- Worcestershire sauce1 tbsp
- Egg1 large
- Breadcrumbs1/4 cup
- Beef broth1.5 cups
- All-purpose flour2 tbsp
- Butter2 tbsp
- Saltto taste
- Black pepperto taste
Steps
- 1
In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Do not overmix.
- 2
Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
- 3
Finely chop half of the yellow onion. Thinly slice the other half.
- 4
Melt 1 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove patties and set aside.
- 5
Add the sliced onions to the same skillet and cook over medium heat until softened and lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- 6
Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- 7
Sprinkle the flour over the onions and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
- 8
Gradually whisk in the beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- 9
Return the patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
- 10
Serve hamburger steaks topped with onion gravy.
