Classic Uštipci, also known as fritters or doughnuts, are a beloved Balkan treat. These are typically made from a simple yeasted dough, fried until golden brown and puffed up, and can be enjoyed sweet or savory.

- Active dry yeast7g
- Sugar1 tsp
- Salt1/2 tsp
- Vegetable oil for frying500ml
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)to taste

In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 170-180°C (340-350°F).

Wet your hands slightly and pinch off small pieces of dough. Gently stretch them into irregular shapes.

Carefully drop the dough pieces into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and puffed.

Remove the uštipci with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
