A simplified version of krafne that skips the yeast and long proofing time, using baking powder for leavening. These are faster to make but have a slightly denser texture than traditional krafne.

- Eggs1 large
- Milk100ml
- Melted unsalted butter30g
- Vegetable oil for frying1 liter
- Powdered sugar for dusting50g

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, milk, and melted butter.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead for 1-2 minutes until it forms a cohesive ball.

Roll out the dough to about 1 cm thickness.

Cut out circles using a 6-7 cm cookie cutter. You can cut a smaller hole in the center of each circle to form rings, or leave them as solid discs.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 170-180°C (340-350°F).

Carefully fry the krafne in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
