Classic Salenjaci are delicate, flaky cookies made with pork lard, offering a unique, melt-in-your-mouth texture. They are traditionally baked until golden brown and often dusted with powdered sugar.

- All-purpose Flour500g
- Sour Cream150g
- Egg Yolk1
- Salt1/2 teaspoon
- Powdered Sugarfor dusting

Sift flour into a large bowl. Cut in the pork lard until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate small bowl, whisk together sour cream and egg yolk. Add salt.

Gradually add the sour cream mixture to the flour and lard mixture, mixing until a cohesive dough forms. Do not overmix.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 0.5 cm thickness.

Cut the dough into desired shapes (squares or diamonds are traditional).

Place the shapes onto the prepared baking sheets.

Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and lightly crisp.
