
Traditional Arambašići

A classic Croatian dessert, Arambašići are small, sweet, baked cookies filled with walnuts and often flavored with lemon zest and cloves. They are typically shaped like small logs or crescents and are a festive treat, especially around Christmas.

Sastojci

- sugar150g
- butter100g
- egg yolk2
- lemon zest1
- ground cloves1/2 tsp
- saltpinch
- water1-2 tbsp
- powdered sugar for dustingas needed

Combine flour, ground walnuts, sugar, lemon zest, and cloves in a large bowl. Add softened butter and egg yolks. Mix until a cohesive dough forms.

If the dough is too dry, add 1-2 tablespoons of cold water, a little at a time, until it comes together. Do not overmix.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 0.5 cm thickness. Cut into desired shapes (logs or crescents).

Place the shaped cookies onto the prepared baking sheets.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
