Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and form into patties, about 1 inch thick. Season generously with salt and black pepper.

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.

Grill or pan-fry the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.

Lightly toast the dark rye hamburger buns.
