In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, and chopped parsley. Season with salt and pepper. Mix gently until just combined; do not overmix.

Roll the mixture into small, uniform meatballs (about 3-4 cm in diameter).

Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove meatballs and set aside.

Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, vegetable broth, and bay leaf to the same pot. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

Return the browned meatballs to the pot with the sauce. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for at least 30-40 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through and tender.

Remove the bay leaf. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. Serve hot.
