- Mackerel (Ikan Tenggiri)500g
- Tamarind Paste50g
- Shallots100g
- Garlic3 cloves
- Ginger1 inch
- Chilies (dried or fresh)3-5
- Tomatoes2 medium
- Okra100g
- Turmeric Powder1 tsp
- Belacan (shrimp paste)1/2 tsp
- Vegetable Oil2 tbsp
- Water200ml
- Saltto taste
- Sugar1 tsp
- Cilantro (for garnish)a few sprigs

Soak tamarind paste in warm water, then strain to get tamarind juice.

Grind shallots, garlic, ginger, chilies, and belacan into a paste.

Heat oil in a pot and sauté the ground paste until fragrant.

Add turmeric powder and stir well.

Pour in the tamarind juice and water. Bring to a simmer.

Add mackerel pieces, tomatoes, and okra. Season with salt and sugar.

Simmer gently until the fish is cooked through and the gravy thickens slightly.
