- Dried black beans1 cup
- Water5 cups
- Sugar3/4 cup
- Salt1/4 teaspoon
- Full-fat coconut milk1.5 cups
- Small tapioca pearls1/4 cup
- Pandan leaf (optional, for aroma)1 stalk

Rinse and soak dried black beans overnight.

Drain and rinse beans. Place in a pot with 5 cups of water and the pandan leaf (if using).

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 60-75 minutes until beans are very tender.

Remove pandan leaf. Stir in sugar and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.

Add tapioca pearls and cook for another 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pearls are translucent and tender.

Stir in the full-fat coconut milk. Heat gently for 5 minutes, do not boil.
