  • Ground beef500g
  • Betel leaves (lá lốt)30-40 leaves
  • Shallots, minced2 tablespoons
  • Garlic, minced1 tablespoon
  • Lemongrass, finely minced2 tablespoons
  • Fish sauce2 tablespoons
  • Sugar1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt1/4 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil1 tablespoon

    Wash and pat dry the betel leaves. Trim the tough stems.

    In a bowl, combine ground beef, minced shallots, garlic, lemongrass, fish sauce, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until thoroughly combined.

    Take one betel leaf, place about 1-2 tablespoons of the beef mixture onto the center of the leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf inwards, then roll it up tightly to form a small cylinder.

    Repeat with the remaining beef mixture and betel leaves.

    Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan or on a grill over medium-high heat. Add the wrapped beef rolls and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until the beef is cooked through and the leaves are slightly charred and fragrant.

    Serve immediately, often with a side of nuoc cham (fish sauce dipping sauce), fresh herbs, and pickled vegetables.
