- Vegetable oil for frying3 cups
- Honey1 cup
- Water2 tablespoons
- Cinnamon stick1
- Star anise1

In a bowl, whisk together flour, egg, milk, sugar, and salt until a smooth batter forms. It should be thick but pourable.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).

Carefully pour or spoon small portions of the batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and puffed up, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Remove fried dough pieces with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

While the dough is frying, gently heat the honey in a small saucepan with the cinnamon stick and star anise. Do not boil, just warm it through to infuse the flavors.

Remove cinnamon stick and star anise from the honey.

Arrange the fried dough pieces on a serving plate and generously drizzle with the warm, spiced honey.
