Cook the gnocchi: Boil the store-bought gnocchi in salted water according to package directions until they float. Drain well.

Optional pan-fry: For a slightly crispier texture, lightly pan-fry the drained gnocchi in a little butter until golden brown.

Prepare the poppy seed mixture: Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground poppy seeds and granulated sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is fragrant and slightly glossy.

Combine: Add the cooked (and optionally pan-fried) gnocchi to the skillet with the poppy seed mixture. Toss gently to coat evenly.
