
Classic Crveni Umak od Škampa (Shrimp Red Sauce)

A rich and flavorful classic Croatian shrimp red sauce, perfect served over pasta or polenta. This traditional recipe features plump shrimp simmered in a tomato-based sauce with aromatic vegetables and a hint of wine.

Sastojci
- Shrimp1 lb, peeled and deveined
- Olive oil2 tbsp
- Onion1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic3 cloves, minced
- Crushed tomatoes28 oz can
- Dry white wine1/2 cup
- Tomato paste2 tbsp
- Fresh parsley1/4 cup, chopped
- Saltto taste
- Black pepperto taste
- Water1/4 cup, if needed

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.

Pour in white wine and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Add crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the sauce. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.

Stir in fresh parsley. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. If the sauce is too thick, add a little water.
