- Belacan (shrimp paste)1 tsp
- Tamarind paste1 tbsp
- Lime juice1 tbsp
- Sugar1 tsp
- Saltto taste
- Vegetable oil3 tbsp
- Water50 ml

Prepare the sambal paste: Blend or pound red chilies, shallots, garlic, tomatoes, and belacan until smooth.

Heat vegetable oil in a wok or pan over medium heat. Add the sambal paste and cook until fragrant and the oil separates, about 5-7 minutes.

Stir in tamarind paste, sugar, salt, and water. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Add the shrimp to the pan. Cook, stirring frequently, until the shrimp turn pink and are cooked through, about 3-5 minutes.

Stir in lime juice. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
