- Mackerel fillets500g
- Ripe tomatoes200g
- Fresh green peppercorns2 tbsp
- Fish sauce3 tbsp
- Sugar1.5 tbsp
- Garlic3 cloves
- Shallots1 large
- Vegetable oil2 tbsp
- Water100 ml
- Black pepperto taste
- Saltto taste
- Fresh chili1/2
- Cilantrofor garnish

Prepare mackerel fillets, rinse, pat dry, and cut into pieces.

Chop tomatoes. Mince garlic and shallots. Lightly crush the green peppercorns.

Heat oil in a clay pot or saucepan over medium heat. Sauté garlic and shallots until fragrant.

Add chopped tomatoes and cook until softened. Add fish sauce, sugar, salt, and crushed green peppercorns. Stir well.

Arrange mackerel pieces over the tomato mixture. Pour in water.

Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and braise for 25-30 minutes, until fish is cooked and sauce thickens.

Season with black pepper. Garnish with sliced chili and cilantro.
