
Classic Oreshki (Nut Cookies)

Traditional Oreshki are small, shell-shaped cookies made from a buttery, crumbly dough, filled with a sweet, creamy condensed milk and walnut filling. They are a beloved classic for holidays and celebrations.

- All-purpose flour3 cups
- Unsalted butter, softened1 cup
- Granulated sugar1/2 cup
- Eggs2 large
- Sour cream1/4 cup
- Vanilla extract1 tsp
- Baking soda1/2 tsp
- Salt1/4 tsp
- Sweetened condensed milk1 can (14 oz)
- Walnuts, finely chopped1 cup
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)as needed

In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the sour cream and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined to form a soft dough. Do not overmix.

Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat your Oreshki maker or waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions.

Grease the Oreshki maker if necessary. Take small portions of dough (about 1 tablespoon each) and press them into the heated molds. Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Repeat with the remaining dough.

While the cookies are baking, prepare the filling. In a bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk and finely chopped walnuts. Mix well.

Once the cookie shells have cooled slightly, carefully fill each half with the condensed milk and walnut mixture. Press two halves together to form a complete cookie.
