- Canned white beans, rinsed and drained2 cans (approx. 400g each)
- Small pasta shapes (e.g., ditalini, elbow macaroni)150g
- Smoked ham or bacon, diced75g
- Onion, finely chopped1/2 medium
- Garlic, minced1 clove
- Vegetable or chicken broth750ml
- Olive oil1 tbsp
- Tomato paste (optional)1 tsp
- Bay leaf1
- Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish)1 tbsp
- Saltto taste
- Black pepperto taste

In a pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced ham/bacon and cook until lightly browned. Remove and set aside.

Add chopped onion to the pot and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add minced garlic and optional tomato paste. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Add the rinsed and drained beans, broth, and bay leaf. Bring to a simmer.

Add the pasta shapes to the simmering broth. Cook according to package directions until al dente, stirring occasionally. Add water if the stew becomes too thick.

Stir in the cooked ham/bacon. Remove the bay leaf. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh chives.
