Feijoada Expressa

70% authentic · Brazilian

A simplified version of the classic Feijoada, using pre-cooked or canned ingredients to significantly reduce cooking time while retaining much of the traditional flavor.

Ingredients

Servings4
  • Canned black beans2 cans (800g total)
  • Pre-cooked smoked sausage (e.g., kielbasa or chorizo)300 g
  • Cooked ham or pork shoulder200 g
  • Bacon100 g
  • Onion1 large
  • Garlic3 cloves
  • Bay leaf1 unit
  • Saltto taste
  • Black pepperto taste
  • Water or broth1 cup

Steps

  1. 1

Dice the pre-cooked sausage and ham/pork. Chop the bacon and render it in a large pot until crispy. Remove bacon bits and set aside.

  2. 2

In the bacon fat, sauté the chopped onion until softened, then add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

  3. 3

Add the diced sausage and ham/pork to the pot and cook for a few minutes until lightly browned.

  4. 4

Drain and rinse the canned black beans. Add them to the pot along with the bay leaf, water/broth, and reserved bacon bits.

  5. 5

Bring to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, allowing flavors to meld and the stew to thicken slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. 6

Remove the bay leaf. Serve hot.
