A classic Indian dish featuring marinated and grilled paneer cubes simmered in a rich, creamy tomato-based gravy. This version is adapted for stovetop cooking.

  • Onion1 medium
  • Garlic3 cloves
  • Green chillies1-2
  • Turmeric powder1 tsp
  • Coriander powder2 tsp

  • Black pepperto taste
  • Cooking oil2 tbsp
  • Ghee1 tbsp
  • Curd1/4 cup
  • Milk1/2 cup
  • Lemon1/2
  • Tomato puree1 cup

Steps

  1. 1

Cut paneer into cubes. In a bowl, mix paneer with curd, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt, pepper, and 1 tbsp cooking oil. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.

  2. 2

Heat 1 tbsp cooking oil and 1 tbsp ghee in a frying pan or flat pan over medium-high heat. Sear the marinated paneer cubes until golden brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.

  3. 3

In the same pan, add a little more ghee if needed. Sauté finely chopped onions until golden brown.

  4. 4

Add minced garlic and chopped green chilies, sauté for a minute until fragrant.

  5. 5

Stir in turmeric powder and coriander powder. Cook for 30 seconds.

  6. 6

Pour in the tomato puree. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the oil starts to separate from the masala.

  7. 7

Add milk and bring to a simmer. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the gravy thickens.

  8. 8

Return the seared paneer cubes to the gravy. Stir gently to coat.

  9. 9

Simmer for another 5 minutes. Squeeze in lemon juice and adjust salt and pepper.

  10. 10

    Serve hot.
